FC Midtjylland secured a clear 4-1 victory over Brøndby in the Superliga on Monday evening at MCH Arena. The win extends their unbeaten league run to eight games and keeps them in second place with 18 points, just three behind leaders FC Copenhagen.
Captain Rasmus Nissen Kristensen set the tone by scoring after just 45 seconds. "The ball landed at Nissen Kristensen's feet after a long throw-in, and the captain hammered it in decisively with his right foot," he said. Stanley Iheanacho doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute following a fine pass from Cho Gue-sung.
Brøndby got a goal back in the second half when Max Ejdum made it 2-1 in the 69th minute assisted by Mads Frøkjær. But FC Midtjylland responded quickly. Just five minutes later, Iheanacho netted his second of the day to make it 3-1. Magnus Jensen put the finishing touch on the evening with a late goal for the final 4-1 scoreline.
The win came despite Brøndby fans planning a 15-minute atmosphere boycott in protest of Monday fixtures. The early goal, however, saw the protest abandoned. On the downside, David Martinez had to leave the pitch with an injury. For Brøndby, the defeat marks their third consecutive loss, leaving them in fifth place.
FC Midtjylland's strong form continues with three wins and two draws in their last five league matches. Striker Friday Etim is the team's top scorer this season with three goals. The team's next challenge is an away fixture against OB on Sunday.
