FC Midtjylland loses ground with a defeat in a thrilling match against FC Nordsjælland. After losing the top spot just a day earlier, FC Midtjylland lost 2-3 away to FC Nordsjælland on Tuesday evening in a thrilling match that offered a long series of great chances, five goals, and a red card. The match was on a knife's edge in the second half and could just as easily have gone the other way, before an own goal by Ousmane Diao and a penalty kick by Sindre Walle Egeli decided the outcome. FC Midtjylland is now one point behind FC Copenhagen with five matches left to play. FC Nordsjælland is in fourth place with four points ahead of Brøndby and can now see a chance for third place. Benjamin Nygren, who is on his way out of FC Nordsjælland, had a great game and scored a goal after just three minutes. He received a pass from Peter Ankersen and kicked the ball into the far corner of the goal. Later in the first half, he should have been a double scorer, after he made a perfect touch and laid the ball out for himself before sending a weak shot. FC Midtjylland's players looked a bit bewildered in the first phase of the game, but they did manage to equalize to 1-1 after an hour, when Adam Buksa scored on a perfect pass. The second half was a real football game, where both teams had great chances. Oliver Sørensen was close to scoring when he hit the ball on the crossbar ten minutes into the second half. Jonas Lössl had to make a great save on Mario Dorgeles' shot towards the far corner shortly after. But it was the team from Farum that won the tug-of-war on the artificial turf. Lössl saved an attempt by Nygren after 65 minutes, but the rebound went straight to Dorgeles, who forced Diao to tackle the ball into his own goal. The drama continued to unfold, first Walle Egeli converted a penalty kick that was committed by Diao, who was also sent off at the same time. And in the final minutes, Valdemar Byskov reduced the score to 2-3 on a free kick, but FC Nordsjælland shook off the shock and drove home the victory. FC Midtjylland now has a lot of pressure on them to win the last five matches and secure the title. The next games will be crucial in determining whether they can maintain their lead in the Superliga.
