Mike Tullberg has played football in both Italy, Scotland and Germany. He is perhaps best known as part of the coaching staff at the German giant club Borussia Dortmund – where he worked from 2019 to 2025, including during the time Erling Braut Haaland played there. Recently, he was presented as the new head coach of the Danish giant club FC Midtjylland. At a press conference in connection with the appointment, he made a somewhat unusual revelation for Danish people. – Until today, I have never drunk alcohol, tells the 39-year-old coach according to Ekstra Bladet. He explains this by saying that he has always had an inner motivation to become as good as possible within sports. – I am 39 years old, I never went to the city, I was extreme to achieve something. That's what I am also as a coach, he says. – I was not the world's greatest talent as a football player, but I got the opportunity to play in some countries, despite everything. In Dortmund, the Dane had main responsibility for a period when Nuri Sahin was fired as head coach earlier this year. – I was not the world's greatest coaching talent, but with diligence and curiosity, I have got the opportunity to lead Borussia Dortmund in a Champions League match. I have trained in the Bundesliga and now I am in one of Denmark's largest clubs. Tullberg says he has been used to working harder than anyone else since his youth and therefore does not fear opposition in his new job. – When I played in AB (in my youth) I was on both the second and third teams. I tried to learn everything I could when I met the opposition. As a senior player, Tullberg was in clubs such as AGF, Italian Reggina, Scottish Hearts and German Oberhausen. A serious injury was the reason he had to retire as an active player in 2012. In 2019, he got a job at the German giant club Dortmund, where he gradually worked his way up from the youth department to the first team. When Sahin was fired in January this year, he got the opportunity to lead the club's A-team in three matches. It ended with a strong 4-1 win over Ukrainian FC Shakhtar Donetsk in late January. As interim head coach of the club, he had Norwegian Julian Ryerson on the team. After the ongoing national team break, he will get his debut as coach for FC Midtjylland. The club won the top division in Denmark as late as 2024 and back in the 2020/21 season, the club played in the Champions League group stage.
