FC Midtjylland is taken over by Anders Holch Povlsen, who buys the majority of shares in the club. This means that Matthew Benham is no longer the main shareholder. Anders Holch Povlsen had previously invested in the club and has now chosen to take control. FC Midtjylland has recently won three Danish championships and two cup titles. The club has also participated in four European group stages, including the Champions League. Anders Holch Povlsen already owned 25% of FC Midtjylland and entered the ownership circle through an investment of 125 million kroner in the summer of 2021. Now, the Bestseller owner takes over the management through his company Heartland. The cooperation between FC Midtjylland and Heartland will, among other things, be about young players from FC Midtjylland being loaned out to Portuguese clubs to gain experience with a view to resale. Director Claus Steinlein explained at a press conference that the inspiration for the cooperation comes from City Football Group and Red Bull. Furthermore, a women's team will be established in FC Midtjylland from the summer of 2024. Anders Holch Povlsen states that he was caught by the optimism and ambitions that FC Midtjylland bears. Matthew Benham will still have a cooperation with FC Midtjylland through his company Smartodds. He is also the owner of Premier League club Brentford FC, which has a significant Danish presence through, among others, manager Thomas Frank.
